The Start
The end of 2020 is nearing and needless to say it’s been a stressful and hectic year. Despite the harsh valleys and peaks I’ve been climbing this year mentally, I was able to pursue a dream I’ve been brewing in my head over the past 2 years. That dream is starting my own business: firstGenStudios.
A name I came up with last year when I launched an Etsy shop. A name that came up because I was taking a lot of classes about the Diaspora and the word first generation kept coming up. A name that I didn’t realize I related to so strongly.
I am a first generation American. It’s a part of my identity that I didn’t think about for a long time. Something that became more apparent, and more relevant, as I got older and began learning about the world outside of the safety of my parent’s home. At first, it was a source of loneliness. Something that took me a couple years to work through as I was slowly gaining my independence. Now it has grown to become a source of pride. Pride in my family and what they sacrificed to come to the US. Pride in the fact that I’ve been able to learn and absorb two different cultures to become the person I am today. Pride in the fact that this thing that made me feel so different also instilled a drive to understand and learn.
These are the things I want to now instill in this company. A place to connect, learn, and understand through objects that bring joy and comfort to our daily routines and habits. It’s still coming together… but for now, it is my way of sharing my blend between cultures with you. Through firstGenStudios, I hope that you find something to inspire the spaces you inhabit. Something to bring joy to a routine that might be starting to feel mundane.
The Newsletter!
This journey is one that I am excited to share with you. Stressed and nervous too… but mainly excited! If you’re interested in joining me on this journey, you can sign up to receive my monthly newsletter. I have a limited supply of ceramics pieces available now through my Etsy shop, but the newsletter will where I’ll announce new product releases and shop updates first. If that all sounds good to you, you can subscribe to my email list below!
The Logo…
Last, but certainly not least…. my LOGO! I’ve gone through a million iterations of this… and honestly, it was something that I was scared to tackle… but nevertheless, I put my nose down and worked on it this past weekend and was finally able to get it to a point I was happy with. In a few years, who knows, it might change. For now though, I’d like to introduce to you all, my logo for firstGenStudios:
I’ll be doing a more in depth process post about this logo, so if you’re interested, subscribe to my blog! Link for that is in the footer!
